George Washington VS. Steve Jobs
I have been reading two books at the moment: 1: "Steve Jobs" By Walter Isaacson and "His Excellency" by Joseph J. Ellis.
While reading these two books I have come upon the idea that Steve Jobs and George Washington I think were pretty a like in some aspects.
Both were definitely pretty widely regarded after their deaths and are still pretty renown.
There will definitely be period differences because of the times they both lived in but both I think sort of embraced the idea of rebel.
I think Steve Jobs embraced it more because of the time period he lived allow him to but both him and George Washington led rebellions even though we all know who's was more important and successful.
I think a big similarity between the two was that they embraced the idea "Think Different". In both of their lives they allowed themselves to be different from the normal every day people and do different things.
In other words they were out of the box thinkers. Jobs was constantly berating his fellow employees because I think he felt there was a mindset ingrained in them that they needed to be in the box. So he forced them to think outside of the box and yelled at them when they didn't. Washington didn't just think America was going to be an east coast place. He often thought about the west.

Word of the Day: Perpetuation
"Religious values and political realities are so interlinked in the origin and perpetuation of this nation that we cannot lose the influence of Christianity in the public square without seriously jeopardizing our freedoms. I maintain that this is a political fact, well qualified for argument in the public square by religious people whose freedom to believe and act must always be protected by what is properly called our “First Freedom,” the free exercise of religion."
-Dallin H. Oaks

Quote of the day:
"Design is not making beauty; beauty emerges from selection, affinities, integration, love." - Louis Kahn
Thought of the Day:
Isn't it interesting to live in a world where opinions that are spur of the moment are championed vs. opinions that have been shaped and formed over a life time are attacked.
It may be not this drastic but hey I am just doing what is popular coming up with an opinion spur of the moment. At least you can know I am not getting paid to publicly express my opinion. It is free for all .

If you weren't able to make some New Years Resolutions you could always...
...make some Chinese New Years Resolutions such as: "I am going to eat Chinese food at least once a month, I will learn some Chinese phrases such as hello and good bye, or I will buy some more stuff made in China."
From the Peanut Gallery: Hello is ni hao (sounds like knee how).
Me: Yes I know how to say hello. I was just offering suggestions.
PG2: You could learn Malaysian You'd have a really good coach if you did
Me: I will consider it
PG: Or Russian
PG2: Or American. I heard it's kinda hard to grasp.
PG3: Setu, dua, tiga, umpat, lima....Jumpa lag I Khaled!
PG2: Nasi lemak ! Kudos that you still remember how to count..to 5
PG3: Yeah...I forgot 6 -10.

What would our lives be like without fake manufactured drama?
One word answer: Better.
Peanut Gallery : Would like more on the "fake drama" Marc. I seem to b missing something?
Me: There are plenty of things in the News cycles that are blown out of proportion and are made into stories. If you look at "reality" tv there is plenty in there to go around.
This is one example that I have been hearing about today.

Quote of the Day
"We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is in it and stop there; lest we be like the cat that sits on a hot stove-lid; he will never sit on a hot stove-lid again - and that is well; but also he will never sit on a cold one anymore." - Mark Twain
Word of the day is a long one:
Anthropomorphism. "Anthropomorphism helps leverage experience."
From the Peanut Gallery: oh my, here we go again
Me: This is a real word.
PG: :D

Quote of the day
"A man should learn to detect and foster that gleam of light which flashes across his mind from within far more than the lustre of the whole firmament without. Yet he dismisses without notice his peculiar thought because it is peculiar."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Thought of the day:
Isn't it amazing how we let little things bother us and drive us up the wall. The gas prices went up a few cents, I left a few minutes late, I left a coupon at home and now I am going to have to pay 50 more cents than I would have.
I understand that little things CAN BE important but some little things we shouldn't wrap our emotions around. It takes up too much energy which could be used for other stuff (reading comics, throwing snowballs, eating cookies, etc.)

Come What May, and Love It
This is a great phrase to ponder upon and learn from.

Poem of the day:
"Good timber does not grow with ease,
The stronger wind, the stronger trees.
The further sky, the greater length.
The more the storm, the more the strength.
By sun and cold, by rain and snow,
In trees and men good timbers grow."
-Douglas Malloch
From the peanut gallery : I was thinking about making this my status
Me: it is ok you can make it your status too .
Peanut gallery: love it.
Peanut gallery: Haha well, you got it from my status!
The stronger wind, the stronger trees.
The further sky, the greater length.
The more the storm, the more the strength.
By sun and cold, by rain and snow,
In trees and men good timbers grow."

Forgive 70 times 7.
If it is good enough for Christ why isn't it good enough for ourselves?
"In order to be kind to ourselves, we must throttle judgement."
"In order to be kind to ourselves, we must throttle judgement."
What do YOU want to be when you grow up? uhhhh...Ihop
It is interesting how we ask children "What do you want to be when you grow up?" instead why don't we just say things like "You'd be a great cryptoanalyst your really good at math!". At least then we are giving them ideas as well as a compliment to think about instead of a problem which they have no idea of solving.
Solving problems...Albert Einstein style..
"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." -Albert Einstein
Thought of the day
You can love a computer but it won't love you back.
From the peanut gallery: Is your computer not giving u any love? :), Computers don't give love. We can love inanimate objects but they can't love us back, HAMMER WILL MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER! :)

Q of the day: Anyone have strategies for ignoring loud noises?
Trying to read while loud music is playing isn't working very well.
From the peanut gallery: Put the book down and pick up the party hat, noise canceling headphones, and nyquil.

Quote of the day
"The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled."
Mestrius Plutarchos - (Plutarch)

Word of the day
misnomer.
"The expression to make time for is a bit of a misnomer; time can't be created or destroyed."
"The expression to make time for is a bit of a misnomer; time can't be created or destroyed."
Decision Making
When you need to make a decision that is big. Give yourself time to make that decision.
Deliberately plan a time to look at the decision and the road it will take you down. Explore the avenues connected to that road because you may be going down that.
After you have made that decision then keep moving forward and seeing where it is going to take you. If you really feel like you need to turn around then do it but at least give yourself time to explore the decision you've made.
